Lydia may be miffed that I neglected to blog about the making of her new fall dress, but I think she’s content with our recent photos. She’s so professional and polished about her posing, we managed everything in record time.

I love so many things about this project, it’s hard to choose a favorite. But I think the antique lace (from the early 1900s) is a highlight. And of course, the Victorian wool challis felt like butter in my hands. I just love how beautifully everything drapes.

I also enjoyed creating the fancy ribbon closure. Mais oui, trailing tails of velvet are elegant for any time of day!

One more thing to note is the pair of Yantorny-inspired shoes. I began with plain white pumps, which I painted and then I glued lace and a button onto the top. If you’ve never heard of Mr. Yantorny, you might want to pop over HERE and see some of his famous creations. They’re a swoon-worthy reminder of everything we love best about Edwardian fashions.

  1. Love Lydia’s new dress. May I ask the pattern you used? (I assume it’s one you created?)
What did you use for the base of her wonderful new shoes. Thank you so much for sharing about Yantorny’s shoes. I’d never heard of him before. I’m off to see what else I can learn about him.

    1. Thanks, Susan! The pattern is one of my own. I bought the shoes from Doug James. I used the white ones, because I figured I could do anything over the top of white. I might try playing with the shape a little bit on the next pair. Glad you enjoyed the article about Yantorny!

  2. I do Love this Dress! Lovely fabric. Wool challis is divine. Perfect for Fall.
Will there possibly be a pattern for this?😉
