Maddie is 14.5” tall and unmarked. Most experts I’ve spoken with believe her head is probably Barrois. She has her original cork pate and wig. Her ears are pierced into her head, and the earrings appear to be the originals, although I don’t know this to be fact. Her body is what Maree Tarnowska would refer to as a “J3” type – leather with gussets at the knees and hips, and bisque arms. If you have the book, you can see a clothed version of this doll on page 50.
She’s in beautiful condition, and so far not particularly vain. There were some thinning areas on her leather, which I reinforced with bits of leather and water-soluble glue. Her upper arms are wood, although originally, they would have been leather covered. Of course nobody will know about this small sign of age once she’s dressed. And I assured her secrets are a good thing. Every girl needs at least one to put a twinkle in her eye.
