Doll Repair in Progress

Felicity endured a “bath” today, and I’ve discovered two things I wasn’t aware of and confirmed my suspicions about a third.

First, the nearly invisible hairline in her neck does travel into her face and shows ever so slightly next to her mouth. It might be a dimple of you didn’t know any better. I don’t think this is evidence of the crack growing, so it’s not concerning. But it’s there. I’m also now certain her shoulder plate was replaced as part of the hairline repair process, not just because of the obvious issues with the leather, but because once her face was clean I could see the head and arms are one color, and the shoulder plate is obviously different. The second thing I’ve uncovered is a faint hairline in one of her arms.

In spite of these newly revealed issues, I’m still in love with her dramatic little face. So on to the arms I went.

The most urgent problem was the split in the leather connecting the upper left arm to the lower, porcelain arm. Since the upper arm circumference was smaller than the lower arm, the patch had to be shaped. I used tissue to create a pattern for the necessary curved leather piece and glued it in place with water soluble glue. Then I braced her arm to her side until the glue dries. I also took the opportunity to attach her pate.

Next up – finding a flattering wig.
