The doll room has become a flurry of fabric, buttons, patterns, ribbons . . . you name it, I’ve pulled it out of drawers and bins and arranged it on the floor. In never ending combinations and permutations that each excite me as much as the next.

There’s just something about this time of year that inspires me to plan.

And plan and plan and plan and . . .

Let me pause here to say, when my brain gets going like this there is no peace (on earth or in my head) and I have very little good will for anyone, or anything, that interrupts my angst.

Because the problem with having endless ideas is this. Eventually, you have to triage. You have to let go, pick the best ones, set some things aside for later.

And I can’t.

I cannot make a decision to save my life. Which is why Bichette’s lingerie trousseau will be enormous.

Because the vintage kimono silk I chose to make her a kimono is heavenly, and I just have to use that blue to embroider a slip.

Which needs, obviously, matching embroidered drawers. But then, there’s also the contrasting orange color of the flowers in the silk.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to use some of that, too? Perhaps for a nightgown with embroidered trim?

Oh, and just look at these antique buttons – taupe, with a cream colored tip and tiny dots of orange at the center! They’re perfect with this miniscule orange and cream striped cotton, which would make the most darling robe with these buttons on it!

And don’t I have the exact color of taupe as the buttons in a tiny, antique velvet ribbon? And look here – this LSDS robe pattern actually has ribbon trim on it!

And look how pretty this taupe silk embroidery thread is with my underwear cotton. I think there just has to be a second set of underwear – slip and drawers – to match the ribbon on the second robe.

Which adds up to 2 robes, 2 slips, 2 pair of drawers, and 1 nightgown

Most of them hand embroidered within an inch of their lives.

All I can say is, it’s a good thing it’s nearly five o’clock. Which is when I’ll finally be able to sit by a fire and drink a great big relaxing glass of wine.
