In the beginning, there was a woman. Her favorite dress was sewn from a lovely piece of single bar dimity – pink stripes, light as air, and adorned with lace. She made it herself. At least, this is how I imagine it.
When she was gone, her dress remained. And now, a remnant of its skirt is mine – and Maddie’s.
Having carefully removed each stitch, I have two long, triangular sections of fabric and two bias cut ruffles. I’ll need to plan carefully, and piece the skirt portion together. But I think there’s something special just waiting to happen with these tiny scraps of a stranger’s history.
It feels like summer when I touch it. And picnics, and giggling with friends. . .
