Array of Antique Fbric, Sequins, and Lace

So. It’s been a while!

I like the word “while”. It makes me feel a lot less guilty than words like “months” or “over a year”. And I don’t even have a good excuse.

That I can talk about.

Yet.

Meanwhile, the girls and I are counting down to convention. For the girls this mostly means pouting because they aren’t allowed to join me. And for me it means subsisting on cottage cheese and lettuce so my pants will button.

That’s evidently important if you want to appear in public.

Also hair combing. And shoe wearing. And lipstick.

Ugh!

The one happy face in all of this is belongs to Bernadette. At this year’s Bleuette gathering, those who choose to participate in our annual parade of fashions have been asked to use any LSDS pattern to create a “disguisement”. I’ve chosen to make the 1908 “Costume de Hollandaise”, and since this includes a lace headpiece I want a doll with dark hair. Contrast is everything, right? Luckily for Bernadette, she’s the only early doll who qualifies. So Bernadette wins the “Who gets to go to convention this year?” lottery.

She may need to go into protective custody when the other girls find out. And I may need to join her once the rest of my gang sees the oodles and oodles of antique beads, antique metal sequins, Edwardian lace, and other goodies that will be used up in the making of this creation.

As you can see from the above photo, I’ve pulled together everything I need. But before I start sewing, I think I’ll take a minute to brush up on my French curse words. The jealous rumblings in the cabinet have already begun.

When it comes to surviving the wrath of dolls scorned, preparation is everything.
