I need to get better at predicting how much fabric one of these enfantine dresses is going to take. Especially when ruffles are involved. Because what you see above is all that’s left of my antique dress panel now that the cutting out is finished.
Today, I spent several hours turning eighteen bits of fabric into four 40″ ruffles. Some of the sections were less than three inches wide. But it will be worth it. Because this upcoming ruffle-icious dress is the epitome of the fashions hot summer days are all about.
And no, it is absolutely not too late to be sewing summer dresses. Seriously? The first official day of summer was last Sunday.
I intend to finish this vision of froth and loveliness and still make another summer dress. Because it’s fun to sew summer things in the summer. And because fall is still three whole months away.
However, one thing will be different going forward.
For the next dress, I’m going to make absolutely sure before I start that I have enough fabric. Because making it through the cutting out phase by the skin of my teeth is no fun at any time of the year.
